Simply be yourself is a 3D Animated Short which tells the story of an individual searching for it is belonging. It all takes place in an abstract world where there is only an endless street lighted by streetlamps. Equipped with three colorful marbles (blue, pink and orange), our main character sees another person walking into a blue door. It hears sounds of laughter and fun coming out and wants to enter the “club” as well. But it gets rejected and has to hide its orange and pink marble to enter which is quite painful for our main character, since it actually likes the colorfulness. In our generation we fool ourselves in thinking, we are tolerant and accepting. In reality, there is so much hate and polarization in this world.
Concluding, this movie is supposed to spread awareness to keep an open mind towards diversity in all forms. To not only keep our tolerance for people and beliefs we support but for all means. To not lose sight of the reason why we want tolerance, because we want to stop discrimination. So, I want the audience to rethink if they are indeed tolerant. Tolerant towards a feminist, who also wants to be a mother in the traditional way, towards Christians who also support the LGBTQ+ Community (and the other way around). Because judging people and excluding them, sows seeds for division, unhappiness and dissociation from our selves.
